Our Story

Our History

In 1997, two employees of Allied Van Lines decided to branch out on their own, and Allied supported their dream. Excel Moving and Storage began as a North Carolina moving company in Raleigh, expanding to Greensboro and providing services spanning the entire state. With determination and hard work, Excel grew to become one of the most respected moving companies in the region.

We have been recognized for excellence in moving numerous times over the years, and our many accolades only go to show our commitment to excellence for each and every one of our moves.

We strive to continue to grow and evolve as a North Carolina moving company with every move we’re a part of. Our focus is on providing the best service for our customers, whether moving locally or across the country. Excel’s Community Involvement

As our company continues to grow, we make it our mission to improve our community and the lives of those in it, as well as contributing to and involving ourselves in organizations committed to helping those in need.

Move for Hunger

Excel has been an active participant in Move for Hunger for years. This program, which has provided millions of pounds of food to those in need (17 million pounds in 2025 alone) uses participating moving companies to transport donations to food banks. Excel works with our customers to collect donated unneeded food products to distribute to food pantries across North Carolina.

Special Olympics

Excel has been a strong supporter of the Special Olympics for over a decade. Beyond monetary donations, we also strongly encourage our employees to volunteer their time as well. We remain committed to supporting positive environments and fostering inclusion and community.

Environmental Commitment

As the first moving company in North Carolina to become GreenPlus Certified, we’ve cemented our commitment to upholding sustainability and environmental standards in everything we do. Excel continues to look for new ways to successfully execute business while using less water, power, fuel, and essentially creating less waste.
